Cellist

before we are us we are born into darkness
surrounded by only the vacuum of night
but as we awaken and witness this starless
expanse we begin to emit a faint light

we radiate softly like black holes are wont to
at some point we notice our own lovely glow
and seeing our edges we're gradually drawn to
the fact of ourselves and the world—oh, hello

we realize that we are the source of the glimmer
that we were created and now we create
and soon we ignite and what once was a shimmer
becomes supernova, now fully awake

creation is light and it races to leave us
at three hundred million-odd meters per second
the speed of perfection if ever there was one
but still we want more and in every direction
