A Break From Politics

She had to take a break from politics
She couldn't take the shouting anymore
From podiums they vowed to quickly fix
The things she knew they'd soon enough ignore

Like she'd ignored the dishes in the sink
She turned them off and turned that on instead
The remnants of her party made her think
That Duverger perhaps had been misled

The water started tepid but in time
She thought she felt it heating up a bit
But even if the evidence aligned
Deniers wouldn't ever give a shit

The plates were finally ready for a rinse
And though she hated hurting anyone
She held them under with indifference
Til they confessed to things they hadn't done

The waste disposal droned on violently
And shook the kitchen like a hit land mine
She let it happen, standing silently
She couldn't see so maybe it was fine
