Annie Londonderry

I once wore high-necked long-sleeved shirts
And petticoats with layered skirts
Plus corsets to ensure that I
Would never accidentally sigh
And so discover my malaise
At which point I might let my gaze
Fall irreversibly upon
A bicycle, and thereupon
Become a nineteenth century girl
Depraved and bold, my skirts unfurled
But one day all this did occur
And now I am my own chauffeur
I traded all my prison riches
For a simple pair of britches
